Tennis star Danielle Collins, currently competing at the Miami Open, has revealed a compassionate side after she rescued a dog hit by a car. The American athlete, known for her fierce competitiveness on the court, shared her fears for the dog’s survival and has asked for prayers.
Collins’ Roadside Rescue: “We Have to Pull Over”
After a recent victory at the Miami Open, Danielle Collins recounted the incident. While leaving the stadium, she and her team encountered a dog that had been struck by a car.
Driven by instinct, Collins immediately stopped to help. “I was like, ‘We have to pull over,'” Collins said. “We took him out of the street.” The dog, now named Crash due to the circumstances of his rescue, was immediately taken to an animal hospital.
Crash’s Critical Condition and Collins’ Adoption Plans
Crash has been in critical condition at the animal hospital for two days. Collins is hoping to adopt Crash, adding him to her family of four dogs, Scout, Lola, Harper, and Quincy, if he recovers.
“Right now he’s in critical condition at the animal hospital,” Collins explained. “We’re hoping to adopt him and take him home.”
Collins, who has always been an advocate for animal care, has asked for positive thoughts for Crash. “If everyone can say some prayers for my new pet…his name is Crash, because he was in a car crash,” Collins said. “Please guys, send good energy to my little baby…that would be great.”
Collins’ Love for Animals: A History of Rescue
Collins’s love for animals is well-documented. She has four rescue dogs. Collins often brings her Labradoodle, Quincy, to her matches.
Collins considers Quincy her son. She also has three other rescue dogs, Harper, Lola, and Scout, who are cared for by her parents.
From Australian Open “Villain” to Animal Rescuer
This act of kindness reveals a different side to Collins, who was previously labeled a “villain” at the Australian Open. Collins became unpopular with Australian fans after her victory over local player Destanee Aiava, during which she taunted the crowd. However, her dedication to rescuing Crash has shown a more compassionate side to her personality.
Mr. Q: The “MVP” of Collins’ Success
Collins has credited her dogs, especially Quincy (Mr. Q), for her success. She dubbed Mr. Q the “MVP” of her 2024 Miami Open run, where she won her first WTA 1000 title.
Collins’ Plans Beyond Tennis: Family and Animal Advocacy
Collins plans to retire this season to spend more time with her family. She also intends to start a family with her boyfriend, Bryan Kipp, and dedicate more time to her animal advocacy efforts.
