Nick Kyrgios, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist, faced an unexpected hurdle when he was initially denied entry to the All England Club due to a lack of proper identification. The incident occurred on Friday, July 5, 2025, as he arrived to cover the tournament as a pundit.
ID Trouble and Strict Protocols
Kyrgios, who is not competing at Wimbledon this year due to a persistent wrist injury, found himself unable to prove his identity upon arrival. The All England Club enforces strict rules requiring identification for all entrants, regardless of their profile. Kyrgios recounted his exchange with security to talkSPORT, stating he was not one to usually ask “Do you know who I am?”. He humorously requested if they could make an exception “just one time”, but was denied.
Body Search After Credentials Approved
Despite the initial refusal, Kyrgios eventually received his pass. However, the situation escalated when he was subjected to a body search. He described being asked to put all his belongings down before being searched. Kyrgios took the incident in stride, comparing it to instances where even Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have had credential issues. He joked that it was a “Kyrgios treat” and part of being seen as a “villain”.
Wimbledon Absence and Media Role
Kyrgios is currently sidelined with a wrist injury that has kept him out of action for two years, preventing him from competing at SW19. However, he has been present at the tournament, attending Naomi Osaka’s matches and joining her team in her box. While unable to compete, Kyrgios is working at Wimbledon as a pundit.
