Carlos Alcaraz has responded to Nick Kyrgios’ comments that Jannik Sinner is likely to have a better career because Alcaraz “loves girls” and might “party too much”. Alcaraz, who is currently competing at Wimbledon, dismissed Kyrgios’ assessment with humor, stating that such comments “don’t surprise me, coming from him”.
Kyrgios’ Prediction and Reasoning
During a conversation with Naomi Osaka’s coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, Kyrgios shared his prediction that Sinner would surpass Alcaraz due to being more focused. Kyrgios suggested Alcaraz might get distracted by his love for “girls” and partying, while Sinner would remain more “locked in”.
Kyrgios said, “Who do you think’s gonna have a better career, Carlos or Jannik? I’ll tell you mine first. I’ll say Jannik, because Carlos loves girls. He might get distracted, he might party too much. That’s my only thing, whereas Sinner will stay a bit locked in, I think”.
Alcaraz’s Witty Rebuttal
Alcaraz addressed Kyrgios’ remarks during a press conference at Wimbledon. He acknowledged Sinner’s consistency but downplayed the impact of his social life on his career.
“They’re funny comments, which coming from him, don’t surprise me,” Alcaraz said. “It’s no secret that Jannik always has fewer ups and downs than me. It’s something I’ve been working on. It has nothing to do with the nightlife world”.
Alcaraz Focused on Wimbledon
Alcaraz made these comments after his four-set victory against Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round at Wimbledon. The World No. 2 is aiming for his third consecutive title at the tournament. Following his win, Alcaraz expressed his satisfaction with his fighting spirit, acknowledging the stress he faced during the match. “I’m really pleased with everything I fought for but it was stressful,” Alcaraz said.
