Carlos Alcaraz has expressed his appreciation for Emma Raducanu after she was spotted supporting him at his Queen’s Club match. The young Spaniard, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, is competing at the 2025 Queen’s Club Championships in London, where he aims to secure his second title at the prestigious grass-court event.
Raducanu’s Surprise Appearance
Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion and current British No. 1, made a surprise visit to watch Alcaraz’s semifinal match against fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut. Her presence in the stands generated excitement among fans and media alike, especially given the recent announcement that she and Alcaraz will team up for the mixed doubles competition at the upcoming US Open.
Many images and clips of Raducanu smiling while watching Alcaraz have gone viral on social media. The British star couldn’t hide her excitement as she kept a close eye on her future mixed doubles partner.
Alcaraz’s Reaction
Following his victory over Bautista Agut, Alcaraz was asked about Raducanu’s presence in the crowd. He responded with a smile, saying: “I saw on social media she came up to watch my match. I’m just glad. I mean, I was focused on the match. I didn’t see her afterwards. I am just glad that she came to support me, to watch my match. Yeah, I think it was great having her in the stands.”
Alcaraz also revealed that he watches Raducanu’s matches on TV whenever he can and would like to support her in person in the future. “It depends on the schedule, obviously. I have practices. I have matches. Yeah, I would love to, yeah, if I have time, if I’m at the club or I don’t have anything else to do, yeah, I would love to come and watch her. I’m watching her matches from the TV every time that I can. So watching her for real could be fun.”
US Open Mixed Doubles Partnership
The announcement of Alcaraz and Raducanu joining forces for the US Open mixed doubles event has created a buzz in the tennis world. Alcaraz revealed that he was the one who approached Raducanu with the idea. “I was thinking that I couldn’t play better if it wasn’t with Emma. I just asked Emma if she wants to play doubles with me,” he said. He also joked that Raducanu is “the boss” in their partnership.
“I have known Emma for a really long time. I have a really good relationship with her. We are gonna enjoy it for sure. We will try to win. But obviously it’s going to be really, really fun,” Alcaraz added.
Raducanu also took some time to consider the offer. “Emma Raducanu took a while,” Carlos Alcaraz joked about the Brit taking time to accept his US Open mixed doubles proposal.
The pair, both aged 22, are Grand Slam champions, having each won the US Open in New York. Alcaraz won the men’s singles title in 2022, while Raducanu famously won the women’s singles title in 2021 as a qualifier.
Alcaraz’s Queen’s Club Campaign
Alcaraz is aiming to defend his title at the Queen’s Club Championships. In his semifinal match against Bautista Agut, he secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory, extending his winning streak to 17 matches. Alcaraz is the top seed in the tournament and is looking to fine-tune his grass-court game ahead of Wimbledon. He will face Jiri Lehecka in the final.
“I just feel that I’m playing great tennis and feeling more comfortable after each match,” said Alcaraz. “Making the final here at Queen’s once again is so special, so I guess grass mode is activated.”
This win marked Alcaraz’s 250th tour-level victory. Alcaraz, who triumphed on his Queen’s Club debut in 2023, is the third fastest man to reach 250 wins among players that began their career in the Open Era.
Raducanu’s Queen’s Club Performance
Raducanu also participated in the Queen’s Club Championships, which hosted a women’s event for the first time since 1973. She received a wildcard entry into the main draw and had a successful run, reaching the quarterfinals.
In the first round, Raducanu defeated Cristina Bucsa 6-1, 6-2. She then defeated Rebecca Sramkova 6-4, 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals, becoming the lone Briton left in the tournament.
However, her campaign came to an end in the quarter-finals, where she lost to top seed Qinwen Zheng 6-2, 6-4. Raducanu battled a back injury during the match, which may have contributed to her defeat.
Despite the loss, Raducanu’s performance at Queen’s Club was a positive sign as she continues her comeback from injury. Her success at the tournament has lifted her to world No. 36, making her the British No. 1 in women’s singles for the first time in two years.
Raducanu’s Upcoming Schedule
Raducanu is scheduled to play at the Eastbourne International next week as her final warm-up event before Wimbledon. She will face Ann Li in the first round.
