Aryna Sabalenka admitted to being “pissed off” after losing in the Wimbledon semi-finals to Amanda Anisimova. The world No. 1 lost to the No. 13 Anisimova in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. This is the third time Sabalenka has fallen in the semi-final stage at Wimbledon.
Despite the loss, Sabalenka achieved a notable milestone, becoming only the second player in the Open Era to participate in over 100 consecutive women’s singles matches at Grand Slams without losing in straight sets. She trails only Martina Navratilova, who had 142 consecutive matches from 1981 to 1987. The last time Sabalenka lost in straight sets was in 2020 at the U.S. Open against Victoria Azarenka.
After the match, Wimbledon posted on X, “Aryna, you have been truly remarkable. Congratulations on a spectacular run at The Championships 2025”.
Sabalenka said that losing “sucks” and that her return game let her down. Tournament data shows she produced 12 return unforced errors, twice the amount of her opponent. Despite this, Sabalenka said she gave everything she had and that Anisimova was more brave.
