Nick Kyrgios has shared his thoughts on Novak Djokovic’s ability to compete with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, suggesting that the Serbian star is nearing the end of his career, despite his continued high level of play. Kyrgios believes Alcaraz and Sinner are set to dominate men’s tennis for the next decade.
Kyrgios’s Assessment of Djokovic
Kyrgios stated on TNT Sports that “Djokovic, I do believe, and I hate to say, is on his last legs”. While acknowledging Djokovic’s continued ability to compete at a high level, Kyrgios expressed uncertainty about how long he can maintain it. He sees Alcaraz and Sinner as the future of the sport, poised to take over for the next 10 to 15 years.
Djokovic, currently 38, holds the record for the most Grand Slam titles with 24, surpassing Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. However, his last Grand Slam victory was at the 2023 US Open. At Wimbledon 2025, Djokovic has advanced to the semi-finals, where he is set to face Sinner.
The Rise of Alcaraz and Sinner
Kyrgios has consistently praised both Alcaraz and Sinner, acknowledging their potential to become the dominant forces in tennis. He sees them as this generation’s answer to the ‘Big Three’.
Kyrgios highlighted Alcaraz’s flair and “X-factor,” drawing comparisons to Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. He also acknowledged Sinner’s power, but ultimately leaned towards Alcaraz as the one who will reach the heights of the Big 3.
Alcaraz and Sinner have already produced memorable matches, including their French Open final. Alcaraz holds a lead in their head-to-head record.
Disagreement with Serena Williams’ Ex-Coach
Kyrgios has also publicly disagreed with Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena Williams’ former coach, who claimed that Alcaraz and Sinner are already better than Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic in their prime. Kyrgios defended the Big 3, particularly Nadal’s dominance on clay. He argued that Nadal in his prime on clay would still beat Alcaraz or Sinner a majority of the time.
Djokovic at Wimbledon 2025
Djokovic is currently competing at Wimbledon 2025, seeking to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles. However, he has shown signs of vulnerability, including an injury scare during his quarterfinal match. Despite any potential injury, Djokovic is expected to compete against Sinner in the semi-finals.
