Andy Murray has engaged in some playful banter with Carlos Alcaraz following their recent golf outings at Wimbledon. The two tennis stars, who are also avid golfers, took to the golf course before Alcaraz began his Wimbledon campaign.
Alcaraz Reveals Golfing Duel
During his post-match interview after reaching the second week of Wimbledon, Alcaraz was asked about his golf sessions with Murray. Alcaraz, with a smile, acknowledged Murray might have prompted the question. He admitted that Murray won their first match, but he was able to even the score in a subsequent game. “He beat me that day. But then a few days later we played again and I beat him. So it’s 1-1”. Alcaraz also expressed his love for playing golf on his days off and suggested the possibility of a rematch. “I love playing golf on my days off… We are tied 1-1, so yeah, we have to play again”.
Murray Responds on Social Media
Murray, known for his witty remarks, responded to Alcaraz’s interview with a cheeky message on X (formerly Twitter). He shared the video of the interview and hinted that he had won a “deciding match” against Alcaraz. “We played the deciding match this afternoon. Maybe ask him what happened after the next match 😉”.
The Backstory
Prior to Wimbledon, Alcaraz had posted a video on Instagram of Murray making a putt, playfully noting that Murray didn’t win despite the impressive shot. Murray responded humorously, congratulating Alcaraz’s partner, Juan Carlos, for his excellent performance, implying Alcaraz needed the help to win.
Wimbledon also shared a video on their YouTube channel of a golf match between Murray and Alcaraz, where Murray claimed a dominant victory, describing it as “6-2, 6-2” in tennis terms.
Alcaraz Focuses on Wimbledon
Despite the golfing rivalry, Alcaraz remains focused on defending his Wimbledon title. He has progressed to the fourth round and is set to face Andrey Rublev. Alcaraz is aiming for his third consecutive Wimbledon title, a feat that would put him ahead of Murray in terms of Wimbledon wins.
