Jannik Sinner’s Former Physio Breaks Silence After Shocking Dismissal

Jannik Sinner’s former physio, Giacomo Naldi, has spoken out after being let go by the Italian tennis star. The decision to part ways came after Sinner and the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) jointly announced that he had tested positive for clostebol, a banned substance, earlier in the year.

The Doping Controversy and Dismissals

Sinner’s defense presented to an independent tribunal that Naldi had used a spray given to him by trainer Umberto Ferrara on a cut on his own finger. Naldi then massaged Sinner without wearing gloves, leading to the clostebol entering Sinner’s bloodstream through skin lesions. As a result, Sinner fired both Naldi and Ferrara.

Naldi’s Statement

Following his dismissal, Giacomo Naldi released a statement on Instagram. He expressed his disappointment and sadness at no longer being part of Sinner’s team. Naldi also condemned the backlash directed towards him, Ferrara, and Sinner, while thanking Sinner for the memories they shared. “It hurts to think of not being a part of it anymore, it’s hard not to be in the box with you and cheering for Jannik, but I’ll have to get used to it quickly,” Naldi stated.

Sinner Moves On

After the controversy, Jannik Sinner made changes to his team, bringing in Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio, both of whom previously worked with Novak Djokovic. Sinner confirmed the appointments on social media, with Panichi and Badio joining his training base in Monte Carlo.

In more recent news, just before Wimbledon 2025, Sinner parted ways with Ulises Badio and Marco Panichi. Sinner downplayed the significance of these changes, stating, “Nothing major happened. Nothing big happened. I parted ways not long ago, but it’s not affecting me. I feel ready to compete. I feel free. I feel me and my team, we are ready to do the best we can”. He also acknowledged their past achievements together, saying, “We’ve reached incredible results in the past with them, so obviously huge thanks to them. We made some great job, but I decided to do something different”.
