Carlos Alcaraz has voiced his opinion on Jannik Sinner’s surprising decision to part ways with key members of his team just before Wimbledon. Sinner, the world number one, announced the departure of his fitness trainer, Marco Panichi, and physiotherapist, Ulises Badio, a move that has stirred discussion in the tennis world.
Alcaraz, known for his close relationship with his team, expressed that he would find it difficult to make a similar decision. He emphasized the importance of his physio and fitness coach, Juanjo Moreno, Fran Rubio, and Alberto Lledo, highlighting their role in his success and understanding of his body.
Sinner explained that there was no major conflict but that he felt the need for “something different” at this point in his career. He acknowledged the “incredible results” achieved with Panichi and Badio, but insisted that the changes would not affect him and that he feels ready to compete.
Meanwhile, Alcaraz is focused on his performance at Wimbledon, where he is the defending champion. He faced a tough opening match against Fabio Fognini, securing a victory after a four-hour battle. Alcaraz is set to play Oliver Tarver in the second round.
Sinner is set to compete for his fourth major championship and first at Wimbledon. He faces countryman Luca Nardi in his opening match. Despite a recent loss to Alexander Bublik at Halle, Sinner remains confident. He reflected on his defeat to Alcaraz at Roland Garros, but said he feels ready to play.
Currently, Sinner holds a 1,130-point lead over Alcaraz in the PIF ATP Live Rankings. Even if Alcaraz wins Wimbledon, Sinner is guaranteed to remain world number one throughout the tournament.
