Nadal’s Heartfelt Message
According to Sportskeeda, Nadal’s message to Alcaraz suggested that he shouldn’t be discouraged by the result. More specifically, Nadal encouraged Alcaraz not to stress about the loss and conveyed his hopes that Alcaraz would be at his best for the upcoming Madrid Open.
Alcaraz’s Acknowledgment of Nadal’s Influence
Alcaraz has long looked up to Nadal, having met him at the Mutua Madrid Open when he was just 12 years old. He acknowledges Nadal’s influence and greatness. After his Barcelona Open experience, Alcaraz stated that he bows “at the feet of Rafa [Nadal] because of what he did week after week. You have to respect that.” He further admitted that winning everything consecutively is near impossible, and only after experiencing a similar situation himself does he appreciate what Nadal did even more.
The Barcelona Open Final
Alcaraz’s defeat against Holger Rune in the Barcelona Open final ended his nine-match winning streak. Alcaraz acknowledged the physical strain of playing many matches with minimal rest, something he feels Nadal excelled at. Despite the loss, Alcaraz remained proud of his efforts.
